AG Truly Me #44 |
One thing that I'd never realized before moving to the US is how often American Girl has sales. This time around the value was even more impressive than the last one (where I was able to pick up
Kaya and an extra outfit for 66% of the cost of the doll alone), as the deals offered included a doll from the modern "Truly Me" line, an additional outfit and two accessory sets for a similar discount.
So even though I wasn't really looking to add another AG to my collection, it was too good a deal to pass up, so I decided to order one.
Unfortunately it was raining when she arrived, so I wasn't able to take many photos, but I felt the need to share even so (I unboxed her in my home office, so I apologize for the cluttered backgrounds).
Unlike AG's historical BeForever line, the Truly Me dolls are non-character dolls and are distinguished only by their physical characteristics and a numbering system. The doll that I ordered is #44 who is listed as having curly brown hair, hazel eyes and medium skin. Although it's not mentioned in the description, she also has the classic AG face mould (the one that the original four dolls have).

I'll need to take some better photos soon; She's a pretty doll, so she deserves some non-flash ones. And she'll need a name - I can't keep calling her #44, can I?
Congrats on getting a good deal! I don't think to check AG very often for sales, but that's probably good for my wallet. I'm sure your doll is looking forward to getting a name and some new pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteI joined a couple of AG-related forums last year, planning to look for pattern ideas for my stack of fabric that I haven't done anything with. Of course, instead of being inspired to make clothes I've just ended up buying new dolls since the sales always show up in the forums' news sections.
She's very cute, the curly hair is lovely. Do you already have a name in mind for her?
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) I've had a few names in mind, but none of them quite fit - we'll see...
DeleteOh wow JS! What a splenid deal, and she is very pretty. For some unknown reason Angela sprang to mind when I looked at that last photo. Now when I think about it, I realise it's because she reminds me so much of my daughter's school friend, Angela.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
X
Heh, that's as good a reason for the name as any. I'll add it to my shortlist! :)
DeleteCongratulations! She's lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteWhat a pretty doll! I haven't seen this one photographed as much so it will great to see her showcased a little more on your blog! I am actually surprised by how many of these Jills Deals and Steals there have been lately..it seems like they've had 3 this year so far!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, they really have had a lot of them. I understood some of the others - they seemed to be clearing out old stock while they were rebranding the lines - but this one was quite a surprise, at least to me.
DeleteI confess, I'd probably be hesitant to buy anything from AG at full price now, since I'd be thinking "Well, there might be another Jill's Steals and Deals soon".
She is lovely. Congratulations on her arrival. You are so lucky to be able to get them in the sales!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteShe is such a pretty girl. I didn't realize AG had great sales it her than the year-end one that I usually take advantage of. I am not on their mailing list, which is probably the reason I miss other sales.
ReplyDeleteShe definitely needs a real name.

These sales are a promotion they do with/on The Today Show - I don't watch it myself, but people who do add alerts on the forums, which is how I've found out about them.
DeleteStaying off the mailing list is probably for the best - I find myself drowning in their catalogues sometimes (especially around the holidays)!
Congratulations on your new dolls. She is super cute!! Long before I started collecting dolls, I saw a girl holding a doll with a similar hairstyle and dress in the airport. I didn't know anything about AG dolls and thought this was adorable. If these had existed when I was a girl, I definitely would have had one (and maybe a few friends for her)!
ReplyDeleteHi jSarie! Thank you for all your nice comments on my blog.
ReplyDeleteKayla is really cute. You did good on getting such a nice deal.
Take care!
Arlette
Thank you! :)
DeleteWith her hair and eye color, she looks very Esmerelda-ish, but that name might be a bit much for her.
ReplyDeleteHeh, that might cause me to break out into singing the "Hellfire" song from Hunchback whenever I see her now. ;)
