Random Toy of the Day: WellieWishers MegaConstrux Kendall

It's been a complicated summer, which is why I've been away. I'll probably post details in my annual wrap-up at the end of the year, but in the meantime let's get back into the toy chest!

I'm staying in Toronto at the moment, and I recently visited the Samko/Miko toy and children's book discount warehouse that's north of the city.  While I was primarily there to pick up books as gifts for friends, I did pick up a three toys for review.  The first of the three is an American Girl WellieWishers mini block figure from Mega Construx (a version of Mega Blox).

These figures normally retail for around $8CDN, but at the warehouse they were on for $2CDN.  So of course I had to bring one home!  I was tempted to pick up Ashlyn (since that's the full size doll I own), but I wasn't a fan of the way her long hair translated to the block format. So instead I brought home Kendall.

Let's take a closer look!
.
The front of the box.  For such a small figure, the packaging was
almost absurdly large.  And strangely enough, it doesn't include
the character name.
.
The back of the box, which includes photos of all five characters
in the line.  And again, doesn't mention their names.
.
Along with the doll and her stand, this flyer was included.
Once again, it fails to mention the character names.
.
A view from above of Kendall on her pink brick stand.
.
The rear view.
Compared to most block figures, Kendall has very few points
of articulation: just five (neck, shoulders, hips)
.
A comparison to the Assassin's Creed and Monster High Mega figures.
In addition to having fewer points of articulation (9 on the AC, 7 on the MH)
the sculpted details are also much simpler than those on the AC figure.
In terms of size, Kendall is right in between the other two.
.
A parting glance.
And that's it!  I'm looking forward to catching up on everyone else's figure and doll adventures of the summer now. :)

  1. Kendall looks so cute, congrats on bringing her home. I have seen some of these, while surfing the net, and I think they are adorable - especially Willa. Her hair looks OK, but I can understand the thoughts about Ashlyn's hair. Some hair in block form can be rather different compared to the real doll.
Glad you found Kendall and that she was to your liking!

    1. Thanks! :) I think sometimes the doll hair that the most fun to play with in fibre form makes for the least convincing in figure form, and vise versa.

  2. Your new girl is very cute, but I wish Mattel had done a collaboration to make Ever After High Megas.

    1. You're right, an Ever After High line would have been cute! I wonder if the MH line didn't do as well as expected and that dissuaded them?

  3. I have never seen these before...you've heard that from me in the past about many things, I'm sure of it...but she is cute. I think she'd make a nice doll ornament for a bigger doll. I think Kendal is my favourite of the Welly Wishers in the bigger size :)

    1. I hadn't realized these existed until I found them in the warehouse!

You're right, she'd be a fantastic doll for a doll. You've just given me a great photo idea! :)

  4. I enjoyed the MegaConstrux WellieWishers Kendall review. I wasn't aware that these existed. Great news! I will share this post.

I like Sharon's idea of using her as a doll for a doll. Perfect! (If I can find one here in the States.)

    1. I'd seen them online before, but never in store before coming across this one.

I hope they turn up in your area as well! :)

  5. She's very cute! Her little face I still quite expressive to me, compared to the MH ones. The only WW I've seen in person is Willa I believe. These small toys are so fun to cart around and photography :-).

    1. It's true, the face seems to have more depth to the sculpt than the MH ones do. Probably a fair trade-off since the MH ones have more joints though!

And you're right, they're the perfect size for a portable travel subject! :)
