Retro Week: Fraggle Rock Doozer Wind-Up Toys

I noticed the existence of Fraggle Rock Funko Pop figures while watching one of YouTuber Lawn Gnome's Funko review videos.  My first thought was that I should try and pick one (or two, or more) up. But then I remembered that as children, my sister and I had several of the plush Fraggles and the plastic Doozers that were released in the early '80s during the tv series' original run. And because of that I realized that there were probably old Fraggle toys still living in my mother's basement.  And indeed I found some!

In 1983 Tomy released a series of four wind-up Doozer figures, of which I had two.  Each one had slight variations in their hair and features (and helmet colours), and each came with a removable tool belt. Apparently most of the figures that show up on the second hand market are missing those belts. Luckily enough both seem to be complete with their accessories and in complete working condition.  So let's take a closer look!

And since these are wind-up figures, one of my first questions was whether or not they would still work. And the answer is yes!

.
A parting glance.
I had great fun bringing these two out of storage and into the sunlight, so I hope you enjoyed seeing them as much as I did. Have you considered picking up re-releases of any toys that you owned in childhood?

  1. These are very cute, I've not seen anything like these before. I like the big curled moustache :) and how great that they still work!
Apart from getting a couple of the Robert Tonner Sindy dolls (which I've recently sold) I don't think I've been tempted into buying any other toys re-released from my childhood :)

    1. It's probably better to be able to avoid that kind of temptation! :)

  2. Oh wow! Fancy them being in such good condition and in your own mom's basement!! It amazes me what is hidden away down there. :) I've never seen these little critters before and they are really quite cute. You must have had a terrific childhood, we never had toys like this, so unfortunately there is very little to tempt me.

  3. Okay, I learned something new today. I had no idea about these toys. I've never seen one before. They have a certain charm to them. For old toys, they have been really looked after. You don't see that a lot with old toys these days. They are very very cute.

As far as re-releases of old toys from childhood, I think really just Barbie for me. Although I have been eyeballing those scented carebear figures that I've been seeing around.

    1. I definitely think I got lucky in both having these originally and for the fact that my mother kept them all these years! :)

  5. I was pushed back to my childhood, just by seeing the first photo! I remember them and the Fraggles, just loved the show! The show was called "Fragglarna" and the doozers were called "doozarna". It was great to read this post and see your well kept Doozers!

I have liked reading this, if you want to see your children happy, then by giving them toys for kids, people are happy and healthy, so you must gift toys to your children. My first thought was that I should try and pick one (or two, or more) up. But then I remembered
