Dolls in the Snow

I've been sorting through my photo archives, and I've found myself feeling nostalgic about the doll photos I used to take in my garden in Burlington during the winters (if you're not familiar with Southern Ontario, that's along Lake Ontario, halfway between Niagara falls and Toronto).  Having left the snowbelt, it's probably just that I'm just forgetting how much I hate shovelling, but the photos made me smile, so I thought I'd share a few of them.

  1. Your dolls pop against the snow. I like the strong, vibrant colors and the texture difference between them and the cold, cold, crushable snow.

    1. Thanks! One of my favourite things about snow photography is the way it brings out the colours in everything else. :)

  2. Lovely photos, the lads are all so handsome and look great in the snow. I think snow photos always look so bright and clear....but I don't like the cold ;)

    1. Thank you!

And I agree, snow is always easiest to appreciate from a comfortable distance. ;)

  4. Brrr, it looks cold, but your dolls look awesome with the snow as a background. Your dog is quite beautiful too. Is that a German Shorthair?

  5. I'm more focused on the dog than the dolls, lol. His coloring is not one I'm used to seeing. It's as though his head is on another dog's body.

That ginger in the cream outfit is dreamy!

I went to Winnipeg a long time ago but it was in April I think so no cold weather, thank goodness.

    1. Heh, that's not an uncommon reaction to the dog. I've had several people come up to me when I'm walking the dog and be surprised that his body isn't just a spotted sweater!

The cream outfit is one of my favourites too - I actually bought it thinking "this will be perfect in the snow", so I'm glad you think so too! :)

  6. I've been to Toronto by car from NE Ohio, which entails driving through Pennsylvania and New York and on through Niagara Falls, so I might have passed Burlington. Still living in the snow belt down here. :)

The doggie is nice. Did it ever show interest in the dolls? Vito is... intense. I'm expecting him to flash a set of fangs any moment.

    1. Oh, if you've driven from Niagara to Toronto then you've almost definitely passed through Burlington. You probably passed over the Burlington Skyway -the huge bridge that links the Hamilton side to the northern side of the lake.

The dog is always a little cautious when I bring out a new doll. For a while I was in the habit of photographing him with each new doll, and I think he knew he wasn't allowed to touch them, so he'd just sit there and look a little frustrated. You can almost imagine him say "I'm more than just a pretty face!" ;)

  7. Awesome photos! There really is something magical about the whiteness of the snow, the green of the evergreens an just putting dolls outside where you're not really accustomed to seeing them out and about in the winter. Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful collection! Cute dog as well, my grandparents always had that breed when we were growing up. :)

    1. GSPs are a fun breed, aren't they? I used to say I'd always have Staffies, but this dog has converted me into a Pointer fan! ;)

      And thanks! :)
