Tagged! Farah Lily's Questions

The Liebster Award is making the rounds again, and this time Farrah Lily of Cozy Comforts and Dolls is passing around a new set of questions.  Thanks for the tag, Farrah! :)

This is an easy one: Thank your nominator, answer their questions, tag some more people, and write up some questions for them.

The questions here are less doll-centric than they usually are, and I've had fun reading along with other people's responses.  On with the questions!

1. Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Definitely going with Schmendrick from The Last Unicorn.
"I'm Schmendrick the Magician, and I'm older than I look."
(although I confess, that's a line from the book
rather than the movie...).
2. What’s your favorite flower (or plant if you’re not a flower person)?Clematis!
These particular ones are from my mother's garden in 2005
3. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
There was a restaurant in DC that we always used to take our out of town guests to so that they could enjoy the grasshopper tacos.  It sounds a little weird, but they're tasty bugs!

4. What was the last movie you saw (at home or in theaters)?

Deadpool.
5. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?
There are so many to choose from, but right now I'm hoping to visit Morocco soon - hiking the Atlas mountains, seeing Marrakesh and Casablanca, all that fun stuff!

6. How did you meet your best friend?
I usually say that my sister is my best friend, so my answer would be at home! ;)

7. What is your dream job?

Vineyard owner, but only if my vineyard is on a scenic mountain!
This was taken at a Niagara winery - very scenic, but no mountains.
8. If you could make a custom doll based on any character or real person, who would you make?

As I was saying the other day on my ThreeZero Alistair post, I'd love to see more Dragon Age 1/6th scale dolls/figures.
Imagine some Anders and Isabela dolls!
9. What’s your favorite season?
Spring, at least until the insects come.

10. If you could talk to/understand any one species of animal, what would you choose?
Dogs, then my dog and I could have a serious discussion about why he shouldn't scratch up that one chair...
That's right G-dog, we're going to have a serious conversation.
11. If you could instantly learn any language, what would you choose?
That's another tough one, but I'll go with Spanish (runners up: Cantonese and Italian).  Although frankly I'd probably be happy just brushing up on the languages I already speak but am letting slide!

And that's it! The final rule of the Liebster Award to tag more people to join in on the fun (as always, no pressure if you're not in the mood to play along, and if someone else has recently tagged you, apologies if you've had enough of these). I'm tagging: ShashaAlasseCarnesirMuff, Vanessa, and Irene. And if you haven't been tagged already (or have been but want to go for another round), feel free to tag yourself! :)

Here's the next group of questions (inspired by this set, but with a different spin):
1. Your favourite doll or figure comes to life! What's the first thing they say?
2. If your favourite doll or figure was a flower, what flower would they be?
3. If your favourite doll or figure came to life, where would you take them for dinner?
4. If you could have any company make any doll, who and what would that be?
5. If your best friend were a doll, what doll would they be?
6. Do you imagine that any of your dolls came to life, they'd speak languages that you don't (or on the flip side, do you imagine that your dolls don't understand some/any of the languages you speak)?
7. Do you own any movie tie-in dolls?
8. Do you have a travelling gnome-type doll who goes on holiday with you?
9. Have you ever taken a doll to work (or if you have an army of toys on your desk, how do you decide which ones to keep there)?
10. If you could commission a jointed animal doll, what would it look like?
11. What do you think your collecting style says about you as a person?
And that's it! Thanks for reading along.

  1. Oh thank you for the tag! You know I have such a weakness for these!

I don't mind at all if they aren't doll-centric. I like reading about people's other interests.

I love The Last Unicorn. I have it on DVD. Have been meaning to get my hands on the book. I keep forgetting every time I do an Amazon order to look for that book. I kind of miss how animation movies used to be like that. I might watch it again this week. Thanks for the inspiration!

I recently watched Deadpool too. I found it quite funny. Enjoyed it but wasn't expecting it to be as violent in places as it was!

I hope you take photos if you do go on your Morocco trip. I love seeing travel photos.

Oh boy I'd love to be able to communicate with my cats. I'd love to know what they are thinking. They have some weird expressions on their faces sometimes.

Thanks for sharing your responses! I always enjoy reading these.

    1. Trust me, if we do the Morocco trip I'll be taking too many photos! ;)

And wow, you were fast getting this tag up!

  2. Really interesting set of questions as well as your responses. I suppose after a number of these Liebsters, it makes good sense to learn more about the collector than the dolls. Thank you for sharing :D

  4. Awesome answers, JS! I loved the Last Unicorn as well and my girls really like it too. I didn't realize there was a book..I'll definitely be looking for that! I am curious to know what other languages you speak. I don't want to assume French just because you're Canadian. ;) Cantonese would be a fantastic one to learn. I loved all of your travel answers as well as your dream to own a vineyard..so cool!!

    1. Heh, French is on the nose! :)

The movie version of The Last Unicorn is very true to the book - whole bits of dialogue are direct quotes. But the one thing it left out was the subplot about Schmedrick's age, which I think added some extra emphasis to the regret/passage of time theme from the main plot.

It's definitely worth reading, I think (and I actually almost answered question #8 with another Peter S. Beagle reference, because another line of dolls I'd love to see would be based on another of his novels, The Inkeeper's Song, which is another favourite of mine (Fair warning though, that's not one to share with the kids - it's a fantasy that deals with the passage of time just like TLU, but there are much more mature themes in that one).

Thanks again for the tag! :)

  5. Did you like Deadpool? Mr. BTEG and my two daughters saw it, and they liked a lot. Said it was really true to Deadpool's character.

    1. I was really happy with it - it had the perfect balance of comedy, action, and ridiculousness, which is exactly what that character needed.

  6. I loved reading it :D omg vineyard owner, that does sound like a dream job! Somewhere in the French countryside or something~ !

What languages do you speak now? :D

Thanks for tagging me! Your questions are quite interesting and I'll need to think about them a bit! :D :D

    1. I'm looking forward to reading yours! :)

I think harvesting grapes is probably hard work (or requires a lot of people management), but the scenery and the wine makes it seem dreamy, right?

As for languages, it depends what I need to say! A professional conversation? Just English and French. To socialize, Afrikaans as well (this amuses my Belgian cousins to no end, because it sounds like Dutch baby-talk to them - I should speak Dutch, but I don't). The last time I was in Germany I discovered that while I remember my nouns, I've forgotten all of my verbs! That was more than a little awkward. And I studied Swahili and Vietnamese at university, but I try not to mention that because I only remember about 20 words of either of them.

And living in the US for two years now has actually made my English typing slower, because now I have pause to think about which spelling to use!

  7. Oh my JS, grasshopper tacos!! Now that is weird. LOL! I'm adventurous when it comes to food, but not that adventurous.
Another interesting read, these are quite fun, aren't they.

    1. Heh, if you didn't know they were grasshoppers, you'd probably think they were crispy beef, I promise! ;)

  8. Grasshopper tacos?! I've tried many an animal, but I just say no to insects. Not that I haven't eaten a bug or two when I was a kid, but that was more of a double-dog dare you situation.

    Great questions!

    1. Heh, but those childhood bugs-on-a-dare were probably raw - fry them up with a bit of spice and it's a whole new experience! ;)

  9. This was very interesting to read, especially because the questions aren't even doll related so I know more about you as a person :D

I love the last unicorn, it's one of my favorite books and movie, though the sequel of the book is kinda sad.

Grasshopper tacos sound like it could work, and I'd be willing to try it, but it doesn't sound tasty at all XD

Everyone has gone see deadpool but me ;_;!!!! I need to watch it asap.

In my country there's a lot of vineyard and wineries, but they are all in the valley, not in the mountains. It stil lmakes a nice scenery though.

If you ever want to give spanish a try and need someone to practice with, I'm up for it :)

    1. Once I've started a beginner's class (maybe this summer), I'll definitely need someone to practice Spanish with! :)

A vineyard in a valley would definitely be my second choice of dream job! ;)

And you might be pleasantly surprised by the grasshoppers - I was!
