Packing Tip #1: Start with the easy ones!

I always feel like the best way to get started on something is to tackle something easy - that way it looks  like something solid has been accomplished practically before you start.  And that's why I always start by packing my DC Comics/Vertigo Preacher statue:

The great thing about DC's Porcelain statues of this vintage is that they were boxed in perfectly hallowed-out foam, so as long as you keep the box (which I did), it's fantastically easy to pop them back in.
Nestled in the moulded foam.
Jesse here has made it through numerous moves with me (Toronto-Calgary-Burlington-Arlington-Houston), all without a scratch, and he's always the first thing I pack up.

Back in the box.

  1. I love to re-use those shaped boxes. The figures go in and stay tidy.

  2. Ahh, good to have a reliable travel buddy. Sounds like you're in Houston now? How did you like Burlington when you were there? I have been there once and loved it. Seemed like a great place to live. Very dog friendly-lots of hippies...loved it. :)

    1. Yup, I am in Houston now! I enjoyed Burlington, although to be honest it was a little suburban for me (I should probably clarify that it was the Canadian Burlington in Ontario, and not the US Burlington - Vermont, right?).

    2. Oh ok, haha...I was thinking the US Burlington. :) I hope you find happiness in Houston! At least the winters will be nice. I'll have plenty of snow photos to remind you of what you left behind this winter, lol.

  3. Sound like a sensible move, but I still wouldn't like packing JS . . . it's one of those things that really bug me. He's a lovely statue and it's good you have a safe way of transporting him, it would be a shame if something happened to him.

    1. Thanks! And I don't blame you for not liking packing either way - even the easy bits can still be an ordeal, can't they? :)

    1. Heh, exactly! I actually regret throwing out the boxes for my PlayArts figures - one of them seems to have lost a hand en route!

    1. Thanks! It's true, we're done with the packing and on to the unpacking now, which is its own ordeal, but at least feels a little like Christmas morning with all of the unwrapping! ;)

  6. I've never seen packing foam like that. I guess I just buy the cheap stuff, lol.

    1. Heh, I haven't seen much of it lately - I think it was a short-lived packing trend from the late 90s.
