Digging through my mother's basement the other day, I came across a slightly more recent toy than most of the ones I've been posting about recently - Wolverine from the late 90s ToyBiz "Light Up Weapon Classics" line (I mentioned the Nightcrawler from this series a couple of months back).
Unlike the Nightcrawler, this figure is not terribly well engineered and can't stand on his own. He also has a bit of an odd face sculpt, which is unfortunate. On the other hand, he still has his original weapon, and - even more surprising - it still lights up!
I'm not sure if this toy is going to come home with me, go back into the basement, or be traded or gifted along, but it was interesting to see it again!
If you're celebrating a holiday weekend today, I hope it's a good one!
My boyfriend recently bought a bunch of DVDs of the animated X-Men series. I must admit I don't know much about the characters, but Wolverine I know (from the movie posters, in Hugh Jackman form :-) ). Too bad the figure can't stand on his own, but great he still works!
ReplyDeleteWorking your way through the DVDs sounds like fun - do you know which of the animated series he found?
DeleteNo, but I'll check it and let you know.
DeleteHello again, they are the Marvel classic series apparently :-).
DeleteThose ones are fun - happy viewing! :)
DeleteThis is a truly terrible figure, I have him in the other colors.
ReplyDeleteTruly terrible is a perfect description, you're right.
DeleteWhat always surprises me is that the other figures from the same series are decent - it makes me wonder what happened that this one ended up being such a totally different style (and such a failure overall).
I wonder the same thing. Psylocke is my favorite to this line.
DeleteHappy Labor Day, to you, too!
ReplyDeleteYour Wolverine reminds me of He-Man. (The incredibly fat muscles, lol.) Is he under 12"?
Have you seen the Hot Toys Wolverine? Build AND articulation AND looks, lol.
He's one of the 5" ones, so quite a bit smaller.
DeleteI have seen the Hot Toys Wolverine - it's a brilliant figures, isn't it? I'm tempted to pick it up every time I see Sideshow do their free shipping special. So far I've resisted, but maybe someday...
Don't remember seeing Logan with that color scheme before. I find it interesting that 1. his claws seem like a glove accessory on this left hand and 2. I can't see his claws at all on his right hand. And those veins!!
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be a short-lived early-90s version of the character, which is a strange choice for a late 90s toy, but at least it explains the veins!
DeleteOMG, his veins look like worms crawling under his skin and that coloring is really throwing me off. BUT... he's quite mesmerizing, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteWorms! I'll never look at the veins in the same way again! :D
DeleteHa! He's amusing. I have a Gambit that has the light-up action like this.
ReplyDeleteHeh, amusing is right! I have the Gambit somewhere as well (maybe I'll dig him up one of these days) - he's definitely one of the better ones.
DeleteVery surprising as most Toy Biz figs are, for the most part, very well balanced. He doesn't look too bad, though.
ReplyDeleteYour right about their standards - I used to have dozens of their figures, and I think this one is the only one that was such an objective failure. Can't be perfect every time, I suppose!
