Random Toy of the Day: Windcharger (Transformers)

Robot form.
Since I'd been spending so much time in Toronto lately, I'd originally planned to attend Dollism in Buffalo (only an hour-and-half across the border!) over this past weekend, but fate intervened, and I ended up back at home in VA/DC instead.  So while that means I don't have any interesting stories to share (or new dolls to show off), at least I was able to take a few toy photos!

First up is Windcharger - a 1980s transformer who is about the same size as a matchbox car when he's in his vehicle form.  Being compact means that I frequently misplace him, but that's also the reason he's at my house rather than in my mother's basement with the larger transformers - he was an accidental stowaway when I first moved out, and he's moved around with me ever since!

In terms of display value, there's not much to him, but compared to the larger transformers of his era, he's proved to be nearly indestructible.  The big ones are all missing pieces now, while this guy still looks almost exactly as he did when he was new.

  1. I know what you mean. My son has all his original transformers in our storage unit and he just might have this one too. He always has a Superman something now.

    1. Simple but functional, which is pretty clever, isn't it?

  3. OMG, I remember when the Transformers cartoon first came on the air. It was the first time I got a crush on an animated character. I thought Optimus Prime was soooo dreamy. I know my mom got tired of me singing that theme song, lol. Windcharger is no Optimus but he's still a cutie.

You wouldn't happen to have Goliath from Gargoyles, would you? He was my second crush. Mmmmm, Goliath.

    1. Heh, now I'm going to be hunting for Goliath! I don't think I had one, but I feel like my sister might have, and that means he might be in a bin in my mother's basement! A quest! ;)

    1. Starscream! For some reason I never had any of the Decepticons, but I always wanted a couple of them - him included!

    1. Nice! I sometimes think getting them back (or finding them again) is even more fun that getting them for the first time.

  6. The simpler transformation on these original mini really a classic that still holds up today. I bet they could reissue these today and kids would love them.
