Princess Leia & Wicket the Ewok |
A sort post today, but something I still wanted to share. As it turns out,
those die-cast vehicles were not the only still-carded Star Wars toys that my mother somehow managed to find. She also gave me this pair of figures from
Return of the Jedi: Princess Leia and Wicket (or as the boxes say, "Princess Leia Organa in Combat Poncho" and "Wicket W. Warrick").
As with the vehicles, these still have their original clearance prices ($2.00, reduced from $3.88, which was reduced from $4.69). Adding to the vintage fun, they're also from a now-closed chain, although it's K-mart this time (K-Mart still exists in the US, but they went out of business in Canada 20 years ago).

Wicket up-close and personal |
As with the vehicles, I'm going to try to find a way to keep these protected but also on display - maybe in a shadow box? I'm still working on that part...
This is probably blasphemy, but I've never cared for the Star Wars saga (I've seen all the original movies) and I especially never cared for Ewoks. They look like unkempt, filthy teddy bears. And they are covered in fur so why are they wearing ponchos? Chewbacca is covered in fur and he walks around pant-less, so what's up with that?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, lol, rant over. Office Depot actually used to carry some cheap document frames that could act as shadow boxes for something so small.
Ha! I'd never given much thought to Chebacca's lack of clothes vs. the Ewok's love of ponchos, but you're right! LOL!
DeleteAnd thanks for the framing tip! I'll have to check their document frames out. :)
Great!!! I love Wicket :-). I had all the small figures when I still collected these kind of toys, this post brings back memories! Years and years ago, we had a little toy store in the neighborhood that had a lot of old stock and I have bought a lot there! Your mother has a talent for finding cool things!
ReplyDeleteHeh, I can imagine coming out of one of those little shops with armfulls of these kind of figures - I love that kind of thing!
DeleteMy dog looks something like an Ewok at the moment, he needs a clip! Isn't it funny how people perceive things differently, I loved the Ewoks from the first moment I saw them on the big screen. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway back to the storage, I think the shadow box is a great idea as long as it has a glass front. We've recently done that with hubby's rock collection.
Hugs,
X
Ha! Now that you've mention dogs, I think my neighbour's two bichon/terrier pups actually look a little like Ewoks at the moment too! I'm going to be thinking of that every time I walk by them now! ;)
DeleteAnd good point about the fronts of the boxes - thanks for the tip! :)
It would be appropriate if you found a shadow box at Target's leaving-Canada-with-tail-between-legs-whimpering sale, which should be starting quite soon. (Since the chain never bothered with a real web site, I can't tell if they ever carried such things at the Canada stores -- did they think Canada doesn't have teh interwebz?)
ReplyDeleteHeh, you're right - in addition to the toy display, it would be perfect trio of failed department stores! :D
DeleteI am going to write a blasphemy post too....After Empire I was out of Star Wars. I never got the magic that was ROTJ. I do not want any figures from that movie.
ReplyDeleteHeh, well it is a lot of people's least favourite of the original trilogy, so you're probably not alone on that front.
DeletePlus that just leaves more of those figures for me! ;)
Awesome find. And cheap, too!Free actually ;)Except for the 4 bucks shelled out for the pair 30 some odd years ago.Try these guys out for protective cases.

Awesome, thanks for the tip!
DeleteDamn! Yes, invest in the Zoloworld protective cases Tony listed above- will take up much less space as well
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll check them out - and good point on the space-saving.
DeleteI love the detail the manufacturers sometimes get in creating these tiny figures. Sometimes they're better than the larger ones.
ReplyDeleteI've only sen the first Star Wars, but I think Darth Vader looks awesome.
I think you're right about the tiny figures getting more manufacturing details - it's a big part of their appeal, isn't it? :)
DeleteAck! "Seen" I meant to type ;-P
ReplyDeleteAnd I mean Darth Vader in general.
BTW is Darth Vader Leia's father as well as Luke's? Just curious ....
Yup. Hence figures like the the "Vader's Little Princess" statue based on this book - I'm not always a huge fan of cutesy, but I do like those ones! :)
DeleteI gotta say I'm jealous. I've been trying to get my hands on a loose and complete Leia again, but it's hard to do without spending a small fortune.
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, where in the world did your mom find those?
She found them at an antique shop that specialized in old books (I believe in New Brunswick - she brought them back from a road trip, so I'm not 100% certain). I'm guessing that the owner doesn't usually sell toys and didn't know what to do with them!
