Out of the Box: Funko's Avengers Age of Ultron Mystery Minis

The Iron Man/Hulkbuster mystery mini
Once again, just days after swearing off mini figures, I'm back with another pair of them.  Up this time are two figures from Funko's Avengers: Age of Ultron tie-in mystery minis.  As with all of Funko's Marvel figures, these minis are bobbleheads rather than the static figures that most of their other lines are (licencing complexities, is apparently the reason for that).

Unlike some of these Mystery Mini lines, there are no chase figures in this release: all of the figures appear in at a 1/12 frequency.  With odds like that, I thought it would be interesting to see who I'd get - unfortunately the two I picked weren't any of my favourites, but hey - that happens with blind boxes.  And the two figures I have are nicely detailed, so at least they're interesting to look at.

As with all of Funko's Mystery Mini lines, these figures come in plain black bags inside well-decorated boxes.

The figures themselves are decent - the sculpted detail is well-done, and the bobble heads don't actually wiggle as much as I'd feared, and so the necks almost seem articulated - although obviously they aren't - rather than spring-loaded (my usual issue with bobble-heads).

First up is Ultron:

The second figure is of Iron Man's Hulkbuster armour, and is actually more than twice the size of the other figures in the series.

In conclusion, they're cute and nicely sculpted, but not really my thing, so it was silly of me to buy them.  But my nephew will probably love them, so I may pass them along to him, so that works!

  1. Ultron is cute :-D! If your nephew doesn't like them, maybe you can use them as accessory with your large dolls?

    1. That's a good idea - They're exactly the right scale to be a full size vinyl figure relative to some of the 1/3 and bigger 1/4 dolls!

  2. Ok, so these characters I know, lol. Sometimes the impulse to buy something just takes over and we all do it! I'm actually pretty impressed with the details on Ultron's back.

    1. Yeah, the impulse definitely took over this time! LOL.

And you're right, they do have more detailed sculpts than Funko's Game of Thrones minis, so it's nice to see that kind of improvement.

  3. These look very detailed so I'd like to see how the humanoids looks, especially Black Widow. I cant handle the mystery boxes though. I would get ticked off on having duplicates. That's why I don't like those Shopkins (?)

    1. Yup, the detailing surprised me, and I had been hoping to get Black Widow or Hawkeye, but I really don't want to end up with 5 Ultrons, so I think I'll hold off until they turn up second hand somewhere.

  4. That is the best thing about toys, you can always find someone to pass them on to. The are very well made toys you could always use them with your bigger dolls. I still say you have a great toy box and it is full of surprises!

    1. Thanks!

And you're right, I can never complain much when I know there's someone else who will enjoy them the way they deserve! :)
