In the Garden after the Rain

Since my current garden is narrow and L-shaped I can't always get far enough away to frame my photos the way I'm used to, but I decided to not let that get in the way of new photos and took Carpatina Veronika and Double Dutch Sascha out after a rainstorm to do some experimenting. I'm not thrilled with the results, but that just gives me something to work towards, right?

It's all photos from here on out.

  1. I think your pictures turned out well, even if they weren't exactly what you were looking for. The closest thing I have to a garden here is a concrete patio slab, and a few squares of dirt, one of which is overrun by mint. It also faces south, so it's uncomfortably warm in the summer. Maybe in the spring...

    1. There are worse things to be overrun by than mint - at least you can make a nice cup of tea (or a julep)!

Actually my mother's garden has a decent section of the mint that will not die - she pulls it up every year to keep it from strangling her raspberry bushes, but it always comes back. I guess it's just a tough herb!

  2. These two dolls look so good in their period dresses. And by the way, those photos look good to me.

  3. What gorgeous little outfits they have!

I agree with Barb, I think the photos turned out great. I love photos of dolls outdoors. I really wish I could do that here too, I have a big backyard and all but it's usually brown and not very pleasant to look at. Things here die easily and we're on tight water restrictions at the moment so watering the yard is left to the mercy of the rain when it comes.

    1. Thanks!

The outfits are from Carpatina - they sell both patterns and ready made outfits for 18" dolls (both the slim sizes for these dolls and the wider sizes for American Girl-type dolls).

I miss having a big back yard - it was a lot of work, but I think it spoiled me for having better angles for photos. Even if your yard is dead, that could still make for some interesting photos - your subjects could be dealing with a drought - it might make for an interesting photo story! ;)

  5. Hi JS!
Love photos, and I think you have done a great job. I am hopeless outdoors, we have a garden, but not anywhere suitable for an old girl to take pics I'm afraid. That's why I use so many backdrops inside. :) Keep up the good work.
    Hugs,

    1. Thanks! :)

You do such a fantastic job photographing your backdrops that I'm constantly fooled into thinking that they're actually outdoors (or that you've built intricate dioramas) - you must really know your lighting!

  6. These photos look lovely to me, they're bright and the colours really pop! I particularly like your Carpatina girl, she's very pretty and her blue eyes really do show up well in your photos.
I think you did a great job!

    1. Thank you! I was worried that she was looking too washed out (and that her friend was reflecting too much light), but maybe I'm being to negative. :)
