Whenever I travel, I like to pick up a souvenir doll or figure to bring home. I don't always keep them (sometimes they get passed along to friends), but it's vary rare for me to come home from holiday without one. These are a few of the ones that are on my shelf now:
|
Wooden ball figure, Ecuador, 2007 |
|
Crocheted family, Ecuador, 2009 |
|
Rag doll, Dominican Republic, 2011 |
|
Beaded Figure, South Africa, 2005 |
|
Plush Donkey, Aruba 2013 |
Somewhere I probably have photos of the souvenirs that are in storage (which include a variety of airport dolls that were childhood gifts) and of the ones that were passed along as gifts for friends. But that's a post for another day!
In any case, I hope my US-based friends had a great Independence Day! And for the folks whose countries are still in the World Cup and are playing today, good luck!
I like the crocheted family the best. It's just so freakin' darling.
ReplyDeleteIt is, isn't it? :)
DeleteThe positioning seems to be a traditional thing - all over the country there were also rag dolls and paintings of the same style of family group.
I like the crocheted family too, and as a knitter, I'm wondering if that is real alpaca, or llama. Not sure which animals live where. :) Fairly prized wool here in the US.
ReplyDeleteThere are llamas there (the Andes do run through the country), but I think this is either sheep or goat.
DeleteI tried knitting with alpaca wool once and discovered that I'm allergic to it, so it's just as well! ;)
Ha, the crocheted ones! I want to crochet an alpaca/llama now!!
ReplyDeleteYou should try it!
DeleteMy experiments in crochet are always weak (but then I only just learned), but I love looking at what more talented people create!
I very well might... I am making a teddy bear for the dog now, along with a couple blankets... LOL. You're probably better than you think! It's a fun hobby.
DeleteCongrats on the finds!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
