World Doll Day Tag

This is clearly a sign of how behind I am, as World Doll Day is the second weekend in June, and this tag was meant to lead into it, but hey - better late than never, right?

I did some reading about the event, and it turns out that World Doll day enjoyed it's 29th anniversary this year.  While the event started as a doll-giving day, it seems to have evolved into a general celebration of dolls.  In honour of the event there was a collection-question, tag going around and I was tagged by Brini of Brini's Doll Domain and  Farah Lily of Cozy Comforts and Dolls - if you haven't checked out their lists already, give them a visit!

The rules of the tag are simple: List your 3 favourite doll acquisitions of the past year, list three dolls that are currently on your wish list, and then tag 5 people to join in the fun.
First up, favourites from last year!  Number one is definitely my Volks SDGou Claude the Beast, when I didn't win the Volks lottery, I assumed I'd missed my only opportunity (since the secondary market prices I'd seen were all ridiculous at that point) - so when he turned up on Mandarake at a reasonable price, I couldn't click that "buy" button fast enough!

Number two is the Monster High Neighthan Rot.  He isn't the best doll and wasn't the hardest to find, but I'm adding him because I think the concept of a zombie unicorn is hilarious.

And the third place goes to Hasbro's Union Jack, who has the best articulation of any playline figure I've ever seen in this particular scale.
Union Jack.
And that's my top three!  On to the wishlist!

I've been waiting for a decent Dragon Age 1/6th figure for years, so even though Alistair isn't my favourite character in the franchise, I'll definitely be picking up ThreeZero's figure of him (a little strange that he has the look from the comics rather than the games, but hey).
Alistair
For number two, I've mentioned before that I regret putting my two old Sasha dolls (A Gregor and one of the babies) into storage before I moved, and because of that I've been thinking about picking up a new-to-me one.  I'm not 100% certain which one I'd pick, but I did miss out on a Caleb at auction the other day, so let's go with him for now.
Sasha Caleb
And in third place I'll pick Amerai's Nick Chopper.  I really don't need any more 60cm+ dolls, and yet I keep coming back to look at this one... We'll see!

And finally the tag part!  Because it took me so long to get to this, it feels like nearly everyone who does tags (because I know there are a few of you who don't enjoy them, and fair enough!) has either been tagged already - so rather than five, I'm going to do something a little different. (although I noticed that Linda from Darkroom Dolls has returned to doll blogging after a bit of an absence, so I'm tagging her the traditional way).

But for the rest I'm going to issue a pair of challenges for anyone who finds them fun.  First for the action figure bloggers (I see you out there!): I challenge you to join in on the doll tags - the line between doll and figure is thin, so go for it!  And second is for the theme or story bloggers - I'd love to see what kind of in-theme or in-character version of these lists you might come up with!

And that's it for the tag.  Thanks again to Farah Lily and Brini, and to all the other people whose lists I've been reading over the past couple of weeks - I always have great fun seeing what other people put on their lists!

  1. Oh yes you must get another Sasha/Gregor doll! Caleb is real cute and a great contender on your wish list - I will await to see if you succumb this year to the allure of one!

Loved the rest of your post as well, always interesting to see other peoples collections and to hear about their favourites and what is on their wish lists.

    1. Heh, I think I'll probably be succumbing sooner rather than later! :)

  2. Great choices! I love your Volks Claude, he's so handsome. When all is said and done, I do think Volks make the loveliest dolls :)

    1. Thanks!

I really agree about Volks - I don't know how they do it, but there's just something special about their dolls.

  3. Aha, I'm tagged! Great, thank you, I will make my list ASAP :-). Your choices are great, I really LOVE Claude, what a doll! And agreed with Serenata about Caleb, a beautiful doll to have in any doll collection!

  4. Wow, some really great choices here. Your Volks Claude is extremely handsome. The Dragon Age Alistair is also one handsome fellow! What scale is this figure?

    1. Thanks! :)

Alistair is 1/6th scale - 12"/30cm. So he should be in the same range as a typical fashion doll.

    1. I hadn't noticed since I almost put AG Kaya in place of Union Jack, but you're right!

They could all be heading out to a bachelor's party like this! ;)

  6. Loved the post, jSarie! I also love to see what dolls have stolen their owners hearts. So much variety in this blog bubble. I love that you put Neighton Rot as one of your favorites. I totally agree about how funny a zombie/unicorn GUY doll it really is. I have never seen a Volks doll in person and I am seriously afraid to even look them up in fear of sparking another line to collect! Sharon already got me wanting a Sasha and Serenata got me wanting a Makie, lol.

    1. Heh, I'm glad I'm not alone on the Zombie/unicorn thing! :)

You definitely need to see a Volks doll in person - Even if they end up not being to your taste (the style isn't everyone's cup of tea) they're really something special. Although they can be a pain to get a hold of, so maybe it's better not to get into them! ;)

  7. Oh yeah I like the Claude the Beast, there is something sexy about him! I remember how great you said the Union Jack was too, so he is a good one too. I think you should give in to Nick the Chopper, he's already haunting you. I'm going to give in to all the dolls from now on, lol.

    1. Heh, tempting - but if I start giving in to all the dolls I'm going to run out of space and cash! LOL.

  8. Claude is gorgeous. He would top my list even being larger than my usual size. He's like the embodiment of some faraway, past time Gothic prince. Dreamy and dream-inducing. Congrats on having him.

Neighthan Rot as zombie unicorn ... hmmm ...

Union Jack - oh he's so cute. Lookee at all the posing the wee, tough man can do.

Nick Chopper is another hunk I can see the attraction there. I wanted a Sasha Caleb for years. I'd even bought a Gregor fashion for him - brown leather vest and matching pants with a lavender-white striped shirt. Then I decided to limit my collection to playscale. ThreeZero has cool 1:6 scale figures ;-)

    Thanks for sharing ;-)

    1. Heh, I'm feeling the encouragement to buy them all! LOL.

And that leather Gregor outfit is a classic! That was a nice find, even if you ended up not getting a Caleb for it.
